How a job actually runs
- Step 1
Call
Start with a phone call. An electrician hears the details and tells you if it is an emergency or something to schedule.
- Step 2
Diagnose
We find the actual fault. Not a guess, and not a rewire you did not need.
- Step 3
Price
You get the number before the work starts, in writing.
- Step 4
Permit
Where the village requires one, we pull it. That is on us, not on you.
- Step 5
Install
Licensed and insured, to code, cleaned up behind us.
- Step 6
Inspect
We meet the inspector and we sign off. You get the documentation.

EV charging, from one garage to a municipal fleet
An EV charger is a continuous load on a panel that was never asked to carry one. We run the load calculation first, then the circuit, then the charger.
Level 2 at home. DC fast charging and fleet infrastructure for business, school and government sites, including the trenching and the utility coordination.

What we see go wrong
Most of the bad work we find was not done by an electrician. It was a handyman, a previous owner or somebody who watched a video. Backstabbed outlets, undersized conductors, missing grounds, neutrals and grounds bonded in a subpanel, junctions buried inside a wall with no box.
None of that is visible from the living room. It surfaces during a remodel, a home inspection, or the day a breaker stops holding.
What happens when we are done
The last part of every job is the part people do not see: testing each circuit we touched and marking the panel so each breaker says what it actually feeds. When you need to shut something off in a hurry, a correct label saves you guessing.
Where a permit was pulled you get the closed inspection. Where documentation exists, you get it.
The warning signs people ignore
The breaker that trips once a month gets ignored because it holds afterward. The outlet that only works when the plug is wiggled gets a strip of tape over it. Both are connections failing slowly. Slow failures give you time, but they do not fix themselves.
Warm is a warning. A switch, outlet or breaker should never feel hot, and heat at a device means current is fighting a bad connection.
Copper, aluminum and what is in your walls
Aluminum branch wiring went into a lot of houses in the late sixties and early seventies. It is not automatically dangerous, but it expands and contracts more than copper, which loosens terminations over time, and it needs devices and connectors rated for it.
The repair is usually not a full rewire. Proper connectors at every termination, done thoroughly, solves most of it. Anybody quoting you a whole-house rewire on sight has not looked.
The inspection is the point
An inspection is an independent check that what went behind the drywall matches what was supposed to. Work that passes has been verified by somebody with no stake in the invoice.
That is also why we would rather you hire a licensed contractor than the cheapest number you can find. Unpermitted electrical work is a problem you inherit, and it usually surfaces at the worst moment.
If it does not need replacing we will say so.

Materials and why they matter
Devices are not all the same. A fifty-cent backstabbed outlet holds the conductor with a spring clip; a commercial-grade one clamps it under a screw plate. The second kind is a couple of dollars more and it is the reason the connection is still tight in fifteen years.
We use commercial-grade devices as standard. It is a small share of the job cost and it is the part most likely to fail if you go cheap on it.
Code, permits and inspection
Schools, municipal buildings and other public facilities often carry requirements beyond the local electrical code, from the owner’s own standards to bid documents spelling out exactly how work is done. We read those first and build the job to whichever rule is stricter.
We deal with whichever jurisdiction the job sits in. We pull the permit, we schedule the inspection, and we are there when the inspector walks it. You get the paperwork at the end, which matters when you sell the building or when an insurer asks.

Questions we get
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Quik Wire Electric is a licensed Illinois electrical contractor and we carry insurance on every job. The work is done to code and it passes inspection.
Do you come out the same day?
For emergencies, yes. If you have no power, a burning smell, or a breaker that will not stay in, call and we will get someone out. Non-urgent work usually gets scheduled within a day or two.
How far do you travel?
We work out of Des Plaines and cover 24 counties across northern and central Illinois. If you are not sure whether you are in range, call and ask.
Do you handle the permit?
Yes. Where the village or city requires a permit we pull it and we meet the inspector. You do not have to chase that part.
Will you take a small job?
Yes. One dead outlet is a real call. We do not have a minimum job size and we do not price small work as though it were a favor.
What does the work cost?
It depends on what is actually wrong, which is why we look first. You get the number in writing before anything starts, and it does not move unless the scope does.
